Servant leader. Operator. Builder of stronger teams.
James Stephani is a Chicago-area leadership practitioner, speaker, and founder of Vervaaro. He brings more than 15 years of experience leading people and operations across aviation, hospitality, and high-pressure service environments.
James creates practical leadership tools for what frontline managers actually face: difficult feedback, competing perspectives, emotional moments, and the responsibility to protect both standards and dignity.
Invite James to speak about difficult conversations, frontline leadership, and building teams grounded in truth, difference, and humanity.
“Recovery has taught me that real growth begins with honesty—and continues through humility, accountability, and grace.”
My sobriety and recovery are an important part of who I am. Recovery is not a chapter I completed; it is an ongoing practice of telling the truth, asking for help, listening without judgment, and choosing growth one day at a time.
That journey has deeply shaped my leadership. It has taught me to meet people with compassion without lowering expectations, to recognize the courage it takes to be honest, and to create space for accountability without shame. I have learned that people are more than their hardest moment—and that dignity can be protected even when the conversation is difficult.
I do not lead from a place of having everything figured out. I lead as a person still learning, still growing, and still practicing the same principles I ask of others. Recovery continues to make me a more present leader, a more curious listener, and, I hope, a more compassionate human.
